PI Institute of Education

For those interested in really learning the PI business, the PI Institute of Education is designed especially for you.  Courses are taught in 2-5 day segments.  If you are one of those people that prefers even more hands-on training, you can select the training associate path.  As a training associate, you will work side-by-side with PI's to learn how things are done in the real world of PI's.  Additional information presented is based on a 3-month curriculum compiled and produced by Kelly E. Riddle/ PI Institute of Education and approved by the Texas State Board of PI's and the State Board of Insurance. To sign up for any of the following, please call toll-free (888) 873-1714.

Cost of Classes:  Classes are $235 per 8 hour day (2-5 day sessions)

Training Associate:  You will work hand-in-hand on real cases learning the profession from real PI's.  Cost is based on per week and you can train for up to six weeks.  Ever wondered what real PI's do?  Thought about becoming a PI?  Check us out before you jump in!  Cost per week is $1000.00.

Correspondence/Distance Learning:  Each course comes with a book to read and study.  Upon completion, you are given a 20-50 question test.  After successfully passing the test, you will receive a certification of completion for each course.  Cost of course, test and certificate is $95.  Training video also available for most courses at an additional cost of $49.95.  Some of the many course available include:

The PI Institute of Education

The PI Institute of Education was founded by Kelly E. Riddle to teach continuing education courses to PI's and insurance adjusters. In addition, courses are offered to the general public as a way of introducing them to the PI industry. Courses are taught in 2, 8 and 16 hour segments and include such topics as:

Learning Objectives: Internet & Computer Investigations

Course Length: 2-4 hours
Applicable to: PI's, Law Enforcement, Plaintiff & Def. Attorneys, Insurance


At the completion of this course, the student will have a better understanding of how to utilize the Internet to access information which will assist in the handling of insurance claims. The course will demonstrate how to log on and off of the Internet, how to search for topics, how to check a person's credentials, background, civil and criminal history, property and other assets and verify employment or education. The course will discuss computer security, how to conduct computer investigations and laws associated with these types of investigations.


 

Learning Objectives: Nursing Home Abuse Investigations

Course Length: 2-4 hours

At the completion of this course, the student will have a better understanding of what nursing home abuse is, how to uncover it, and how to prevent it. The student will learn how to conduct the investigation, who to interview, what records to utilize and laws associated with this topic. Note: The presentation includes photos of abuse and sensitive subject matter.


 

Learning Objectives: Surveillance Techniques

Course Length: 2-4 hours

At the completion of this course, the student will have a better understanding of how surveillance is conducted and the techniques used. The student will understand when to apply surveillance to an insurance case, how surveillance can be used in other situations, the type of equipment needed and laws related to surveillance. The course will also cover common mistakes, how to better manage the investigator to achieve the goals and how to deal with surveillance that has been compromised.

At the completion of this course, the student will have a better understanding of how to conduct an interview and how to better understand and utilize the person's voice deviations or body language.


 

Learning Objectives: Insurance Fraud Investigations

Course Length: 1-3 Hours
Applicable to: PI's, Insurance Personnel, Defense Attorneys, Law Enforcement


At the completion of this course, the student will have a better understanding of what insurance fraud is, how to identify it and what to do to successfully prosecute the case. Actual case examples will be utilized and the course will cover automobile fraud, property fraud, worker's compensation fraud, arson and homeowner's fraud.


 

Learning Objectives: Accident Scene Investigations

Course Length: 1-2 Hours
Applicable to: PI's, Insurance Personnel, Plaintiff & Defense Attorneys


At the completion of this course, the student will have a better understanding of how police officers conduct an accident scene investigation and how that applies to insurance claims. The student will have more knowledge of the mechanics of determining the point of impact, the final resting position and how to utilize information such as skids marks.

Course Length: 1-2 Hours

At the completion of this course, the student will have a better understanding of laws pertaining to private investigations, conduct with clients, how to handle law enforcement contact and the code of ethics. Note: This course is best when combined with "Criminal and Civil Laws for PI's."

Course Length: 1-2 Hours

At the completion of this course, the student will have more understanding as to the laws that apply to private investigators. Through this understanding, the insurance adjuster will have the ability to better manage the investigator and to insure that no activity is conducted which would cause a breech of the policy or a bad-faith lawsuit.

Course Length: 1-2 Hours

At the completion of this course, the student will have more understanding regarding special types investigations such as competitive intelligence, counter-measures and undercover investigations. The student will observe when to use special types of investigations, how to conduct the investigation and how to manage these cases.

At the completion of this course, the student will have a better understanding of when statements should be obtained and their uses. The student will be shown how to take a recorded or written statement and what questions should be asked when conducting investigations.

Course Length: 1-2 Hours Applicable to: PI's, Insurance Personnel, Plaintiff & Defense Attorneys

At the completion of this course, the student will have a better understanding of how and when domestic investigations are conducted. The student will see how domestic investigations can create a breech of ethics, laws and client confidentiality. Case examples will be utilized, equipment will be discussed, and testimony related to these types of cases will be studied. The student will learn how to deal with violent confrontations, managing the client and how to successfully complete this type of case.

At the completion of this course, the student will have a better understanding of how to use public records for to prevent scams, uncover assets, conduct background checks, locate missing persons and track property. Records covered include municipal, county, state, federal and computer databases.

Course Length: 1-2 Hours

At the completion of this course, the student will understand how companies are using undercover operations in their fight against theft, embezzlement, employee miss-conduct and other applications. The student will understand the objectives of this type of investigation, the potential for abuse, how to manage an undercover operative and when to close down an undercover operation.

At the completion of this course, the student will have a better understanding of how a hidden asset investigation is conducted and the different applications. Information sources and records pertaining to this subject will be provided.


 

Learning Objectives: Marketing and Managing a Successful PI Agency

Course Length: 1-2 Hours

At the completion of this course, the student will understand how to run a PI agency, what forms to use, how to find a niche and how to be profitable. The student will understand the different types of marketing, the pros and cons of each marketing media, how to promote themselves and the agency and how to obtain new clients.
